Berchman is the Chief Digital Officer in Gilbert, Arizona, where she manages all internal and external communications, public relations, marketing and digital government initiatives. She leads a digital team responsible for developing forward-thinking policies on social media, digital communications, web initiatives and other tools to better serve the public. Her department created a coding contest for junior high and high school students called “SPARK App League” and the “Government Gone Digital” podcast. Previously, Dana spent eight years working at MTV and MSNBC, both in New York City. Dana earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Arizona State University and her Master’s Degree in Journalism and Public Affairs from American University.

Vargas is a national award-winning communicator with more than 20 years of experience in daily print journalism, magazines, social media and public relations. He has been part of the Communications team at San Antonio Water System since 2012, including his current stint leading the utility’s national award-winning social media channels. Vargas is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin (Journalism) and wrote for the Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, Austin American-Statesman, People magazine and more. He was previously the Media Relations Manager at the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin. Vargas enjoys hiking and traveling abroad, partaking in the local food and wine offerings.

Jasper Stenstrom

Waggener is the Communications & Marketing Manager for the City of Bryan, Texas, where she leads strategic communications for the city, including media, websites, social media, graphic design and videography. Kristen has worked in local government communications for 8 years both in Bryan and in Lenexa, Kansas. During this time, she has won numerous national and state awards for her communications work and has served on a number of advisory boards, including the Government Social Media Organization’s Advisory Council. She has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Buena Vista University and is a Certified Public Communicator through Texas Christian University. Stenstrom has been a professional firefighter for the past 7 years. Working professionally with two departments in Washington and one in Idaho, for a total of three years on probation... by choice. Jasper is a firefighter at Graham Fire & Rescue in Pierce County, Washington. Jasper holds the Communications Director position of this 450 member local and runs all Graham Fire & Rescue social media channels growing their social media presence dramatically which in turn has had a huge impact on elections to save firefighter jobs, win local endorsed commissioner races, and win public official races. Jasper also sits on the IAFF 7th District PR committee where he teaches throughout Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. In his free time, Jasper enjoys any outside activities with his wife, traveling around the world competing in firefighter stair climb events, and hanging out with his German Shepherds, Deschutes & Haze.
